Unique Situations

HelicopterMertes Contracting has been called on to help out in unique situations time and time again. Our reputation for innovative solutions has gained us the respect of Architects, Engineers, Property Managers and owners.

During a time of urgency, there is usually no time for mistakes. Such was the case for our clients during The Great Chicago Flood. Mertes was called on to secure a large door in a sub-basement that was connected to the deep tunnel where the problem had begun. Water was building up fast, but if the door let loose, the water would have destroyed thousands of records and materials that were stored in the basement level above. Mertes crews worked around the clock setting up thousands of sandbags, core drilling through 12 inches of concrete from the floor above to allow us to view the area that we would be securing. The project was a success.

HelicopterWe have also worked in a situation where a client in the downtown area was instructed to remove an abandoned 70' antenna from the top of a 220' building. Mertes came up with idea of removing the antenna with a helicopter, lowering it down to the ground, torching it into sections and hauling it away. The street was closed down for less than one hour.

Our capabilities are endless and we always welcome a new challenge.
